Barcelona is the European city with the most deep tech start-ups, devoted to artificial intelligence, block-chain, robotics, frontier materials, photonics, supercomputing, quantum science and biomedicine.

In addition, Catalonia has nearly 300 start-ups in this sector, with 1,700 highly qualified workers and a turnover of more than 125 million euros, 42 centres generating spin-offs (universities, research groups and hospitals), 9 incubators or accelerators and 31 capital venture funds.

The Barcelona Deep Tech Summit is being held at the Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc site, bringing together over fifty speakers, fifty start-ups displaying their innovation, and forty institutions and investment companies. Nearly a thousand people are expected to attend, looking to connect the most valuable technology with specialised investors able to grasp the importance of the sector and provide funding to accelerate the arrival of solutions onto the market.

The event is being organised by Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, and five universities: UB, UOC, UPF, UAB and UPC, and jointly organised by the Government of Catalonia, through ACCIÓ and the Ministry of Research and Universities.
