The partial return to work by non-essential sectors has led to the re-opening of the Bicing service. The Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) has set out some health measures and recommendations which must be observed to able to use the service:

  • Wash your hands properly, with hand sanitiser or soap and water, before and after each journey.
  • Wear a mask.
  • Use single-use gloves.
  • Keep a distance of two metres from other cyclists.
  • Avoid using two-way bike lanes and pedestrian areas.
  • Avoid touching your face during the journey and use the inside of your elbow if you need to cough or sneeze.
  • Use the mobile app to unlock and return bicycles.

Users are not allowed to use Bicing if they have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last fortnight, if they still have any symptoms or if they have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with it.

Subscriptions will be extended by the same amount of time as the service has been suspended for when the state of emergency ends, meaning users will not have lost out on any days of their subscription period for the service.

Guaranteeing safety for Bicing workers

Health measures are also being applied to protect Bicing staff. In terms of logistics and maintenance, workers will have individual protective suits, gloves and quality-approved masks. Safety distances will be guaranteed too, with disinfection procedures for tools, workplaces and bikes.

97 new Bicing stations

The re-opening of the Bicing service also brings 57 new stations with it, as the service reaches neighbourhoods where it was previously unavailable, such as La Marina del Prat Vermell, Trinitat Nova, Canyelles and Vall d’Hebron. Over the course of 2020, a total of 97 new stations are due to be added, offering greater geographical coverage and improving the service for users.
