Record number of public transport ticket validations in 2023 as figures top 643 million
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona recorded the most ever public transport journeys in its history, topping the figure for 2022 by 18% and the figure for 2019 by 3%.
Last year also saw TMB notch up a record number of journeys for a single day, with 1.65 million ticket validations on 31 October.
A year of records on the metro
The metro network beat all its records in 2023, with over 440 ticket validations and a growth of 6.8% compared to 2019. The network also clocked up a record number of validations for a single month in October, with 41 million journeys.
More bus ticket validations than in 2022
As for the bus network, this closed out 2023 with over 203 million ticket validations, very close to the figure for 2019 (211 validations) and 16% more than the figure for 2022. In addition, services such as the X1 notched up nearly 6,000 ticket validations a day.
