The restaurant deck at the Olympic Port takes shape

Licences have been awarded for nine of the eleven restaurants at the restaurant deck at the Olympic Port. The chosen combination of gastronomy will cater for all types of people and be based on quality, diversity and the commitment to health and sustainable food. The new space is to open in the summer of 2024, coinciding with the America’s Cup.

The fifteen projects put forward in the competition were evaluated by a jury which included representatives from the City Council, BSM, the Barcelona International Convention Centre, the Barcelona Restaurant Guild and the Fundació Alícia.

The resulting selection will give the restaurant deck at the Olympic Port a diverse range of gastronomic options which complement each other. The licences awarded were for:

  • World cuisine – innovation: Grup Sagardi
  • World cuisine – innovation: Pantea Group
  • Blue gastronomy: El Cangrejo Loco
  • Flexitarian cuisine: Pantea Group
  • Catalan cuisine: La Fonda del Port Olímpic
  • Mediterranean cuisine: La Barca del Salamanca
  • Sea cuisine: La Taberna Gallega de Marcos
  • Aperitifs: Platets
  • Daily menu: Los Huevos de Colón

Restaurants currently open at the same location will be closing on 8 January. Continuity of staff is guaranteed, regardless of the companies which have gained licences, with workers able to access professional orientation services offered by Barcelona Activa and a complete training plan in different spheres of hospitality.

During the first quarter of the year, the licences for the other two restaurants will be awarded and a competition opened to define the three gourmet shops that will complete the range of businesses there.

New gastronomy area along the Barcelona coast

The construction of the restaurant deck gets under way at the end of January 2023 and entails an investment of 15.9 million euros. The project forms part of the complete revamp to reactivate the Olympic Port, which has been promoted by Barcelona de Serveis Municipal (BSM) since 2020 and includes three main pillars: the nautical sector, the blue economy and restaurants.
