Creativity, innovation and urban transformation will be the main experiences discussed by the Mayor, Ada Colau, when she meets Italian officials at the start of her visit to Bologna. Both cities are working towards common goals, such as: developing a refuge city, achieving new urban welfare, developing digital urban democracy and fostering sustainability.

The public assembly on the right to the city is being held at the Cortile Guido Fanti del Palau d’Accursio in the evening on 20 June, with social movements and collectives from the city involved.

The Mayor will be outlining Barcelona’s experience when it comes to materialising the human rights of everyone living in the city. The meeting will also look at migration and reception policies for refugees, access to housing, the feminisation of politics, the role of cities on the international stage and the relationship between social movements and political power.

Colau will be meeting her Bologna counterpart Virginio Merola on 21 June to assess the political situation in Italy and the roles of cities and countries in the refugee crisis. After their meeting, the Mayor of Barcelona will receive the Turrita d’Oro, an institutional recognition by the city of Bologna, and take part in a debate with the Italian Mayor on projects by both cities relating to common assets, participatory processes and civic collaboration.
