Weekend: Grec with the family, open-air culture and a plunge for multiple sclerosisThe second weekend in July fills the Teatre Grec and its gardens with culture and recreation for young children and families. Elsewhere, the summer programme in the courtyard at the Nou Barris district office is hosting a classical music concert, while the Mecal Air screens open-air films by the water at the Museu del Disseny and the solidarity plunge is back to put multiple sclerosis in the public eye.

A new edition of the Grec en Família is being organised on Sunday, from 5 pm onwards. The celebration is aimed at young children and their families and will be brimming with music, shows, games and workshops. The activities will all take place in the Teatre Grec and the surrounding rose gardens, known as the Roserar Amargós, with small-format concerts, theatre shows, giant puppets, face-painting workshops and games relating to culture and shows. The courtyard at the Nou Barris district office is hosting a cycle of free summer concerts and shows entitled ‘L’Estiu al Pati!’ The programme has a strong inclusive and social side to it, combining local performers with top-class international artists. On Sunday evening (8 pm) the Symphony Orchestra from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Australia) will be offering a classical music concert. For more information click here.
The city’s longest summer programme of open-air film sessions, the Mecal Air festival, runs from 26 June to 23 September. The screenings are on Saturday nights (from 8 pm) next to the lake behind the Museu del Disseny. On Saturday 13 July there’s a documentary to enjoy, with various screenings through until 11 pm. Solidarity plunge at swimming pools
A new edition of the solidarity initiative ‘Take the plunge for multiple sclerosis’ is back on Sunday, inviting people to make a splash and raise the profile of MS, its symptoms and the difficulties it causes for sufferers and their families. Over 600 swimming pools around Catalonia will be taking part in the campaign, known for short as ‘Mulla’t’. Besides swimming, many of them will be organising other festive activities.
