Traditional dances

As usual, the city's groups that promote traditional and popular Catalan dances occupy a prominent place within the traditional and popular culture programming of La Mercè. At the Palauet Albèniz Amphitheatre, there will be dance and merriment provided by groups with a long and solid history and the highest institutional recognition. Barcelona dance groups will offer a small sample of their repertoire.

Esbart Ciutat Comtal that are about to celebrate their 65th anniversary, will be the first to perform (11 am). They have a history of preserving and promoting traditional dances, as well as creating new Catalan dance choreographies. Following will be Esbart Gaudí (11.30 am), a participant in La Mercè since 2007, who perform traditional dances from all Catalan-speaking regions and also include their own creations. Esbart Maragall (noon), a dance corps working towards the revival of traditional Catalan dances, coupled with new choreographies of traditional roots, and Esbart Vila de Gràcia (12.30 pm), founded in 2018 to promote Catalan culture through dance with innovative creations, will complete the programme for the 23rd.
