In the heart of the 21st century, almost a hundred years after they broke out on the North American music scene, big bands continue to fascinate us. The vivacity of their repertoires, made up of big jazz and swing hits, and the harmony of their metal and percussion sections, keep such bands highly popular and seductive for new generations of musicians.

Such is the case with the Big Band Jam Session, a modern orchestra from the Centre Superior de Música Jam Session that includes the latest music in classical format. A long-time associate of La Mercè, this big band led by Miguel Ángel Ortín will be performing once again at Barcelona's big annual festival, in gardens that will add to their charm.

The Big Band Jam Session concert will be covering the big hits not just from the history of jazz and the golden era of swing, as you’d expect, but also from rock, funk and more contemporary music. Don’t be surprised if you hear them playing live covers from Black Sabbath, Stevie Wonder, Electro Deluxe, Shirley Bassey and Bruno Mars, among other artists, with a retro trumpet or clarinet touch.
