Sim Sim Sim
Bala Desejo
Brazil
Brazilian music, tropicalism
With their first album, entitled Sim Sim Sim, which won them the Latin Grammy 2022 for best contemporary pop album in Portuguese, Bala Desejo became an outstanding example of the new generation of Latin music. The group, made up of Dora Morelenbaum, Julia Mestre, Lucas Nunes and Zé Ibarra, four leading names on the Brazilian independent music scene, was at the forefront of Rio de Janeiro's artistic renaissance.
Sim Sim Sim weave together a fusion of genres, adding vibrant lyrics. Here you'll find Tropicalia, rock, samba-canção, soul-funk and reggae, 70s psychedelia and Brazilian popular music (MBP) creating a joyful, nostalgic avant-garde sound. The work has all the attributes of a classic album from the golden age of Brazilian music in the sixties and seventies, but manages to sound one hundred per cent contemorary.
As solo artists, the four members of Bala Desejo have worked and collaborated with icons such as Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso and Milton Nascimento. With Sim Sim Sim, the group has been part of the line-up at festivals of the magnitude of Primavera Sound and Rock in Rio. At Música Mercè, they'll be accompanied by their own band: eight musicians on guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and percussion.
