DakhaBrakha is an “ethnic chaos” band that has been experimenting with Ukrainian folk music and enriching it with other styles for almost twenty years. At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theatre, their music is personal and exuberant, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms and inspiring cultural and artistic liberation.
Their origins can be traced back to the Centre for Contemporary Art in Kyiv. Founded almost two decades ago by avant-garde theatre director Vladyslav Troitskyi, theatrical work has a strong influence on the band's performances, and all of their shows feature stage effects. Traditional instruments from different countries and a surprisingly powerful vocal range combine to present a brilliant, unforgettable performance.
Now that Ukraine is in the grip of a tragedy on a global scale, DakhaBrakha seek to bring their voice and their struggle to the stage. Their concerts are a testimony to the humanitarian catastrophe in Kharkov, Mariupol, Chernobyl, Sumi, Bucha, Hostomel and other cities. At Música Mercè, they will be showing us the full potential of Ukrainian melodies, and bringing them to the heart of Montjuïc.
