Built in the 14th century on the initiative of the city’s Consolat de Mar and governing Consell de Cent, the Llotja de Mar was a meeting place for city merchants and quickly became a temple for business in Barcelona. The current building conserves elements of Catalan Gothic architecture, along with Neoclassic and Moderniste features, resulting from renovation projects carried out over the last few centuries.
