Cuban songs/world music
Roly Berrío is an artist, living and dreaming in Cuba, who defies categorisation. He is one of the most prolific and authentic composers of his country, with an imagination that sometimes appears to defy boundaries. Those who know him well unquestionably deem him a contemporary troubadour, genuinely revitalizing and perpetuating the tradition of romantic compositions.
His work is a wellspring of African and Spanish roots, but it also seamlessly blends with acoustic rock and the blues. We can experience it in Moscas de fuego, the work he is presenting at Música Mercè, a one-of-a-kind concert where, as the artist says, he will be accompanied by musicians from another dimension: Ariel Brínguez (saxophone), Reinier Elizarde ‘El Negrón and Frank Durand (drums), two members of Trío Mejunje, and Roberto Carcassés (keyboards), the flagship of Latin jazz. Renowned figures in Cuban music recognised both domestically and internationally.
Joining them, Roly Berrío could display his exceptional improvisational talent, which has made him an icon among musicians of his generation. Moscas de fuego promises emotion, tenderness, and joy. A musical journey that will take us to unexplored places.
