“Sabina Witt” concert

El nom en el somni

Sabina Witt

Barcelona

Electronic music, jazz, poetry set to music

Recommended age: from 12 years old

Jazz made electronic: this is how the concert style that Sabina Witt is presenting at La Mercè could be defined, a musical journey that combines new tunes and new versions of others from her earlier records, like Rap del temps dolorós, based on the universe created by Salvador Espriu, and Les Antiques by J.P. Contamine de Latour, who has collaborated with Eric Satie.

In El nom en el somni, Witt goes beyond her traditional acoustic sound and delves into setting poetry to music using a new language: electronica. Beats like hip-hop, bass drum, tap, funk and dub mix with the metrics of the verses by poets like Maria-Mercè Marçal, Alejandra Pizarnik, Goethe, Alfonsina Storni and others whom the composer herself has chosen.

After graduating from jazz singing from the Conservatori del Liceu, Sabina Witt studied piano and classical guitar, in addition to lyric and modern singing. Carme Cuesta, Luciana Souza, Pat Metheny, Chucho Valdés and Dave Holland are just some of her teachers, and now she's the one to train budding musicians at the Taller de Músics. Witt has performed as a soloist at clubs and festivals in both Spain and abroad.

El nom en el somni is a project created specifically for this event.

Duration: 75 minutes.
