Ukrainian popular dance is a tradition that dates back centuries. All the national traits are concentrated in its rhythm and movements: it is a dance that is rich in genres and styles, some of which are absolutely stunning, like the hopak, the kolomyika and the polka. And making the most of its participation in the Mercè, where it will be presenting Magic of Ukrainian Folklore, the Kyiv Academic Theater of Ukrainian Folklore ‘Berehynia’ will be offering the public of Barcelona a master class in traditional dance. An activity that gives everyone the chance to immerse themselves in a festive, fun atmosphere.

We should not be surprised if they teach us to dance a roasted piglet or a potato; some of the dances take their names from traditional cuisine or saint's days, such as the Yakov or the Kateryna. These dances will form part of the Ukrainian Freedom Dance, an opportunity to familiarise yourself with Ukrainian folklore. A freedom dance that everyone can learn and practice, regardless of their age or previous experience.
