Wreath laying by the Trabucaires

Before heading for Canaletes, where the city’s trabucaire groups will be firing a salvo of blank rounds in their popular Galejada, they will be stopping off in Pl. Mercè. The morning of 24 September is the moment for wreath laying and protocol ceremonies in the square and the Basilica de la Mercè. As ever, the trabucaires will be stopping there early in the morning to lay their traditional wreath at the feet of the city’s patron saint.

This is a simple ceremony, almost intimate, in stark contrast to what follows an hour later in La Rambla and Pl. Sant Jaume.
