L’Orgullosa Barcelona

From 21 May to 28 June, Barcelona will be decking itself out in festive and protest garb for ‘L’Orgullosa’ to show itself to the world as a benchmark for the rights and freedoms of LGBTI communities, the fight against LGBTI-phobia and the promotion of sexual and gender diversity. This is a celebration where all citizens will feel represented, offering a programme packed with surprises and reasons to be proud. #OrgullosaBCN

THIS WAS THE FIRST L'ORGULLOSA GALA 28J

Music, diversity and party at the Olympic Ring

L'Orgullosa culminated on 28J, International LGBTI Pride Day, with a mass concert at the Olympic Ring, with a custom-designed line-up to dance, travel and together affirm the rights of the collective. Barcelona got decked out to celebrate diversity, love, dissent, body diversity and pride as an LGBTI collective.

The party starred Maruja Limon, with Roba Estesa, Tribade, Las Karamba, Balkan Paradise Orchestra, Ketekalles and Flamenco Queer; Maria Arnal and Marcel Bages, with Rodrigo Cuevas; and Putochinomaricon, with Rizha and the Baobae Boy Band, King Massalami, Ken Pollet, Mégane Mercury, “Mercurio Retrógrado”, and Chenta (Papi Papushca and Cali). The gala was closed out by the most irreverent teenage pop diva, Samantha Hudson.

L'Orgullosa, or Gay Pride, throughout the city

A month full of activities and music

L’Orgullosa, or Gay Pride, will be touring the city’s districts during the month of June, in a decentralised programme that brings the festival to the city's neighbourhoods for everyone to enjoy. There are over 100 artistic proposals that highlight the plurality of perspectives in the LGBTI community. An intergenerational, transfeminist and intersectional programme designed in partnership with the organisations, museums, libraries, civic centres and stakeholders in each district, which work all year round to further LGBTIQ+ rights.

LGBTI Museums

L’Orgullosa has also reached out to the city's cultural institutions, and various museums are currently transforming their premises and programmes to celebrate sexual and gender diversity. The LGBTI Museums initiative, which arose last year in partnership with the Barcelona LGBTI Centre, returns this year under the auspices of L’Orgullosa.

Temporary exhibitions, guided tours, imagined routes and talks are among the many activities designed to help plant a queer seed that highlights realities which have traditionally been under-represented or excluded from the mainstream narrative.

THE POSTER

Author: Javier Navarro

The L’Orgullosa poster was designed by the artist Javier Navarro, better known by his personal brand "El dios de los tres”. Navarro’s poster, faithful to the world of fantasy and the plants and animals that characterise his creations, is a veritable explosion of colours, a detailed artistic composition for discovering continuous references to the LGBTI+ community, pride and the defence of its rights.
