Barcelona Architecture Weeks, from May 12 to June 28

An extensive program of activities, over seven weeks, aimed at strengthening the link between architecture and citizenship: exhibitions, competitions, awards, discussions, guided tours, parties and much more, for all audiences, in all the districts of the city.

Highlights

  • View of the interior façade of the Tuberculosis Dispensary, designed by Josep Lluís Sert

Guiding Architects is offering a tour of one of the key buildings in Catalan architecture: the Antituberculosis Dispensary. Sert’s style evolved throughout his career, but constant features can be identified from this early building until more mature projects, like the Fundació Joan Miró, like his concern with natural light and the relationship between public and private space, as well as others that gradually transformed to make way for new influences.

  • Boys and girls taking part in an Architecture workshop in the classroom, collectively placing their work on the floor.

Just like every May, the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) is bringing architecture to primary and secondary school students with the ArquiEscola programme to encourage them to reflect on and debate their surroundings. In this year’s edition, schools can choose from among these topics: rethinking indoor and outdoor educational spaces; functional diversity, accessibility and gender; identities and discovery of the environment; or sustainability and health. More than 34,000 students from around 300 schools have participated in this programme since 2019.
