THE PROJECT

Barcelona's boulevard

The work will be carried out longitudinally along the entire stretch of La Rambla, reducing the duration of the project in comparison to the time needed were it divided into sections.

Access to homes, shops, and car parks will be fully guaranteed, and loading and unloading will be restricted to the areas designated for this purpose. As a result, there will be disruptions to the bus lines that currently run along La Rambla, and when the time comes, appropriate information about alternative routes and transport options will be provided.

It is important to note that during the entire construction period, traffic along La Rambla will be one way only, from Colom up towards Plaça Catalunya; in other words, in the direction of the mountains. There will be no traffic in the seaward direction, from Plaça Catalunya down to Colom.

The project will be carried out in three phases:

  1. Work will be carried out on the Besòs side roadway (the side facing El Gòtic). During this phase, which will last for 10 months, vehicles will circulate in the direction of Plaça Catalunya, on the roadway on which traffic currently goes down to Colom.
  2. Work will be carried out on the Llobregat side roadway (the side facing El Raval). This phase will also last 10 months. Vehicles will be able to travel on the roadway in an uphill direction, towards Plaça Catalunya, as this stretch will have been completed in the previous phase.
  3. This phase will involve 12-months of work on the central section of La Rambla. The lateral sections will have been completed by the time this work is carried out.

A more detailed construction schedule will not be available until a contractor has been awarded the tender for the project.
