“1 Day 1 Photo - 31 Photographers 365 Days” Catalonia 2014

Towards the end of 2013, 31 Catalan photojournalists decided to initiate a project designed to portray the day-to-day existence of Catalonia throughout an entire year. Each of the 31 photographers are either freelance or are employed by one of eleven media companies and were assigned one specific day each month, with the result that, by the end of the December, the day-to-day life of the city had been comprehensively depicted. On the one hand the objective of the project was to portray the reality of Catalonia from a social, economic, cultural and political perspective and offer an insight into the day-to-day life in the country’s schools, hospitals, universities and social centres and depict the reality of the person on the street. On the other hand, the work of the photographers was also designed to portray the inequalities, problems and conflicts of the moment, using their cameras to capture the diversity, tension and richness of the city in which we live.
The result of the project is a series of 365 photographs selected on a monthly basis from the overall contribution by the group and can be seen in the entrance hall, stairway and Balcón space of the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica from the 2nd of January onwards. The photographs are accompanied by a series of twelve texts, one for each month, contributed by a group of twelve authors and intellectuals that includes the likes of Sergi Pàmies, Eduardo Mendoza, Kiko Amat, Jordi Évole and Albert Sánchez Piñol. The exhibition “1 Día 1 Foto” can be seen in the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica from the 2nd of January to the 12th of April. Entry is free and more information is available here.
