Antoni Tàpies i Puig

Antoni Tàpies’ engravings

Fundació Antoni Tàpies will be displaying a collection of the artist’s prints and books until the end of May.

“When I dip the copper plate into a bath of nitric acid, at that moment the acid becomes my knife.” This is how Antoni Tàpies explained the process of that he used to make his engravings. You have the chance to discover his prints, etching and aquatint techniques, intaglio and many more experiments in this field at Fundació Antoni Tàpies from the end of January until May under the name “Antoni Tàpies. The Acid is my Knife”. In this exhibition, which shows both the painter’s works and his creative processes, you also have the chance to watch the documentary Tàpies (1990) produced by the BBC alongside TVE Catalunya and directed by Gregory Rood. This documentary also recorded some of the artist’s methods in the field of engravings and other areas of painting and ceramics.

The exhibition “Antoni Tàpies. The Acid is my Knife” opens this Friday, 24 January and will remain open until Sunday, 20 Septembrer at the normal opening times for Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 7 pm, Fridays from 10 am to 9 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm.

General entrance tickets for the centre cost €8 and includes access to the temporary exhibitions and a free locker for storing backpacks and handbags. If you an audio guide, there’s an extra charge for that. You can find more information on this link.
