'Tallers Oberts' wide open

200 artisans will open their workshops for 9 days to make their local creations available to the public.

The Associació d'Artistes i Artesans del FAD (A-FAD) is introducing the 29th edition of Tallers Oberts BCN. From May 21 to 29, the general public will be able to visit spaces that are not usually visible. They will also be able to discover the talent and craft of people working in the world of artistic creation, design, and local craftsmanship. In addition, and as a novelty, there will also be demonstrations. In this way, the A-FAD vindicates the workshops as cultural spaces.

Tallers Oberts BCN is the city's major annual event, with its visual artists and professional artisans. Its purpose is to strengthen ties with the local creative network and to project, above all, the emerging talent. The initiative, which has the collaboration of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB), shows the richness of the artistic and creative fabric, involving all kinds of disciplines: jewellery, graphic design, stained glass, ceramics, engraving, painting, sculpture, scenography, perfumery, photography, drawing, textile crafts, fashion, bookbinding, etc. As the range has been expanded this year, you will be able to find more proposals in the fields of architecture, product design, or illustration.

For all these reasons, this year's edition will be a record edition with a total of 200 workshops spread throughout all the districts. The sector has been very active, as evidenced by the fact that 45% of the participants are first-time participants. The activity programme has also grown and diversified. Overall, more than 140 proposals have been programmed, such as family workshops, introductory courses, talks, guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, films and performances. Participants will also have the opportunity to create their own art pieces with the help of a professional.

For the first time, the event will be extended over 9 consecutive days, offering greater flexibility in planning visits and participation in activities. Activities are generally free or at low prices, and many are suitable for all audiences. There are also specific ones for children. However, you will need to register in advance through the website if you want to attend any of the events.

The Tallers Oberts BCN website is the best way to learn about and sign up for the activities planned during the open days. The website shows the location of each of the 200 workshops on a map, and it also provides basic information such as their contact details, images of their works and a brief description of their line of work. In addition, you will find an alphabetical directory of the participants in each district and another one sorted by disciplines. And as a bonus, the A-FAB has published a printed guide that you can find in the cultural facilities and in the participating workshops.
