The BCN Sports Film Festival kicks off its sixth edition

From the 5th to the 9th of May the festival will screen around one hundred short and full-length films that feature sport as the central theme

The sixth edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival features a programme of almost a hundred local and international productions, both short and full-length, and will take place from the 5th to the 9th of May in various venues throughout the city, with the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch and the Sala Àmbit Cultural of the Corte Inglés in Portal de l’Àngel as the principal locations and Torre Barrina and the Instituto Francés as secondary options.

The main purpose of the festival is to locate, disseminate and raise public awareness about audio-visual creations relating to sport in general and in all possible formats, and the programme will feature, among others, films that reveal the other side of the football coin such as The Price of the World Cup, and Bangkok United, films about mountain climbing and alpine sports such as Drawn, The Unseen and Stranger than Fiction, or productions focussing on the world of competitive cycling such as The Routes, Fixed on Fixed and Phat Ride.

Audiences will also have the opportunity to see some renowned full-length documentaries such as Valley Uprising, a portrait of North American counterculture as seen through climbers in Yosemite valley, in the USA, or Glance Up, a documentary about a 28-year-old man whose love of sport has led him to overcome the drawbacks of his one-metre stature.

Highlights among the festival’s parallel activities include the exhibition Summits of my Life, dedicated to Kilian Jornet, and a centenary tribute to the Catalan Athletics Federation which will include the screening of a series of short sports-related films.
