Adam Zagajewski

CCCB presents the work of Polish poet Adam Zagajewski

Ecstasy and Irony is the title of the reading scheduled for 6.30pm on 12 September

One of the most outstanding poets working today and an icon in the battle for freedom, Adam Zagajewski is coming to Barcelona to take part in a poetry reading at CCCB at 6.30pm on 12 September. Zagajewski will not take to the stand alone, he will be accompanied by local poets who will read translations of his works in Catalan, including names like Narcís Comadira, Pepa López, Biel Mesquida and Sebastià Perelló.

Zagajewski was forced into exile in Paris during the 1980s due to pressure from the Polish government and his poems are influenced by this and other experiences, building a narrative that resounds to the heartbeat of the European historical experience, imbued with themes like expatriation, hospitality and the construction of spaces where attention is paid to both the joyful and less joyful aspects of life.

Zagajewski’s visit to Barcelona takes place within the framework of the Habitació 2016 project, a cycle that explores the relationships between tourism and literature, and which has Zagajewski as its writer in residence in Mallorca this September.
