Four great voices will decorate Christmas at Santa Maria del Mar

Pitingo, Monica Green, Pastora Soler and Maria del Mar Bonet will perform in the gothic cathedral as part of the 23rd Festival Mil·leni.

The Festival Mil·leni is pulling out all the stops and is organising not one but five Christmas concerts in the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. Four of them will be by solo voices, while one, on 23 December, will count with the Orquestra Jove Filharmònica Catalana and the Polifànica de Puig-Reig, who will offer the well-known and much-performed Handel's Messiah.

This Christmas mini-cycle will begin on the 17th, with soul and gospel by Antonio Manuel Álvarez Vélez, who may ring a bell by the name Pitingo. The Andalusian singer will premiere tracks from his new album, Mestizo y fronterizo. The following day, the gothic cathedral of Santa Maria del Mar will host the voice of Monica Green. On the piano, Freddy Wort and a gospel choir will accompany her. In her Christmas project, the New Yorker, who has lived in Barcelona for years, pays tribute to the most important achievements of soul, funk, Motown and rhythm and blues music. On Tuesday, 21 December, Pastora Soler will present her songs, full of feelings and strength, in a special place that is particularly special. Lastly, another great voice, Maria del Mar Bonet, will perform in the basilica on Wednesday, 22nd, accompanied by guitarist Borja Penalba and percussionist Antonio Sánchez. The Mallorca-born artist will perform songs from her usual repertoire; however, the organisers have announced she will also perform songs typical to this time of the year.

All concerts start at 9 p.m. and tickets can be bought in advance. Find more information through this link.
