Film frame from 'City for Sale'

Close-to-the-heart documentaries and humane stories in the Cinema Lliure (Free Cinema) cycle in several Barcelona libraries

The programme comprises five titles, including City for Sale, Els ulls s'aturen de créixer (Eyes Stop Growing) and Singled [Out].

An exhibition window of documentaries made in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Occitania, which tell close-to-the-heart and moving stories with universal themes. This is the idea that governs the winter cycle offered by the Cinema Lliure in the Biblioteca, an event that will take films to different libraries around the city, starting on 3 February. Five titles will be shown in the city of Barcelona. Screening events that include other films will also be held in the Balearic Islands and Occitania, all in original version with subtitles and free admission.

The documentary, City for Sale, written and directed by Laura Álvarez, is an example. It depicts some of the victims of the gentrification and touristification of Catalonia’s capital city. The programme also features Remember Spain. Spanish Refugee Aid, by Isabelle Millé, a film that combines the past and present, which revolves around the Spanish people who exiled to France after the Civil War. Els ulls s'aturen de créixer (Eyes Stop Growing), by Javier García Lerín, deals with the subjects of creativity, death, the absence and persistence of the past in present days. The cycle also includes Singled [Out], by Mariona Guiu and Ariadna Relea, which tells the story of five single women from different parts of the world. The last documentary on the list is Baltasar Samper. El ritme amnesic (Baltasar Samper: The Amnesic Rhythm), by Victòria Morell Salom, a compelling narrative of the music and life of the Majorcan composer.
