Cinema Lliure a la Platja

New Cinema Lliure a la Platja festival with 6 films

The screen at Sant Sebastià beach will show independent films that stand out for their quality.

For years now, one of the most original summer plans is the Cinema Lliure a la Platja film festival. For just over a month, every Thursday a screen is set up on the sand at Sant Sebastià beach, showing films for anyone who wants to watch. The chosen films are known for being quality independent pieces that have done well at international film festivals or with audiences. Some of them haven’t even been in theatres yet, like Journey to a Mother’s Room by Celia Rico (27/06) and Carmen & Lola by Arantxa Echevarria (25/07), which look at the struggle to change in worlds where tradition and family strive to maintain the status quo. We’ll also be able to see new talent, like Jeune femme by Léonor Serraille (04/07) and LETO by Kirill Serebrennikov (18/07). Of course, we couldn’t forget the family session, which this year will feature Kubo and the Two Strings by Travis Knight (11/07), a stop-motion film that has won loads of international awards. As usual, Cinema Lliure a la Platja saves the final day for the audience’s choice (01/08) and voting will open online closer to the date.

All of these films will be shown on Thursdays from 27 June to 1 August at 9 pm at Sant Sebastià beach in the Barceloneta. Before each film, one short will be shown, chosen by the Filmets Badalona Film Festival.

All of the films are totally free of charge and open to the public. More information is available on the Cinema Lliure a la Platja website.
