Albert Guinovart and the formation Spanish Brass

Albert Guinovart and Spanish Brass join forces to explain 'The Adventures of Monsieur Jules'

A work in six movements for brass quintet and piano that will complete a set which will also include compositions by J. S. Bach, Bernstein and Piazzolla.

The pianist and composer Albert Guinovart is the author of The Adventures of Monsieur Jules, a work produced at the initiative of the brass ensemble Spanish Brass and consisting of six movements, each inspired by one of Jules Verne's famous novels. We find, in this order, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Michael Strogoff, North Against South, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Green Ray and Around the World in 80 Days. The compositions are for brass quintet and piano, and Spanish Brass and Guinovart will take to the stage of the Palau de la Música on Wednesday, 8 February to perform them. The work will be played in the final part of the concert, as the musicians will first play some compositions by J. S. Bach, A. Bataller, L. Bernstein, Á. Piazzolla and Guinovart himself.

The composer said about The Adventures of Monsieur Jules: "The music I have created is more suggestive than descriptive in the sense of being able to follow the plot of the story. It is made of detached images and atmospheres suggested by the memory of these stories in an adult who gets into the skin of a child when he discovers those adventures that make him dream." The result is music that is attractive to the audience from the first listen, as it recognises common places, and, letting the imagination take over, they can enjoy expressive, virtuosic, intimate, comic, parodic or dreamy moments. This will not be the first time Guinovart and the Spanish Brass perform this composition live: they premiered it in 2011 at the SBALZ Festival in Alzir and have taken it to different towns and cities since. A recording of one of these concerts, in September 2019 in Castellón de la Ribera, Valencia, is available in compact disc format.
