Crossing the line for the planet

A new edition of Suncine, the international environmental film festival, is here to reflect on the relationship between people and nature.

Is the degradation of our planet the reflection of a crime against nature? Have you thought about the need to take a step forward to find sustainable and positive alternatives for the Earth? It is with questions and reflections like these that the 28th edition of the oldest international environmental film festival of its kind, Suncine, opens its 28th edition. From November 3 to 11, you can enjoy this festival, which has been denouncing and highlighting the degradation of the planet for almost three decades, and which, in this edition, will be held in Barcelona, Cubelles and Mexico City. There will be in-person screenings in several cinemas in Barcelona, specifically at the Cines Girona, the Institut Français and the Filmoteca de Catalunya. Betevé will also broadcast some of the films and it will be possible to view and consult content through the App of the event.

This year's edition is framed under the slogan Crossing the line, a challenge to seek alternative, sustainable and positive solutions to the degradation to which human life is subjecting the planet. The event is divided into six sections according to the theme or format of the audiovisual piece, which help to break down the great diversity of content. The most relevant category is Suncine Official, which includes the ten films selected to compete for the Sol de Oro, the highest award given by the event. There is also the Suncine Latin Planet section, which brings together all the productions produced between Spain and Latin American countries. Another section is Suncine Views, with short films that expose the current situation of the planet and which also compete for a special award for this format.

One of the most interesting proposals from an informative point of view is Suncine Edu, which brings together all the screenings conceived as environmental education tools for children, schools and families. In Suncine Specials you will find the 23 films that have been left out of the festival and, finally, the Suncine Pro section, which brings together face-to-face activities designed for film and sustainability culture professionals, as well as for the general public interested in these issues. But Suncine is not just about screenings. The festival includes proposals in other formats. For example, on November 8th, a round table debate is scheduled to discuss the relevance of the figure of the eco-assistant and, on November 9th, a day of talks with experts from the national and international scene on the world of film, activism and the environment.

In short, for the 28th consecutive year, the Suncine festival brings you a host of proposals in different formats to raise awareness of the need to protect the planet. You can download the programme in pdf or consult all the information on its website.
