The Cruïlla festival is also celebrating the Carnival

On 9 and 10 February, this summer music festival is due to make a brief winter appearance with concerts at Poble Espanyol.

When we think about the Cruïlla Festival we think about the summer, the sticky heat of July, and concerts in which the festival's multicultural origins blend with hip-hop, folk and dance music. The Cruïlla Festival has grown in importance over the years to become one of Barcelona's most important festivals, and has also made incursions into other seasons. An example of that is the Carnaval de Cruïlla edition, which will be held on 9 and 10 February at the Hivernacle del Poble Espanyol, with a double bill on both days.

The opening concert on 9 February features Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, the brainchild of a German musician of Balkan origin, who mixes techno, house and hip-hop with traditional music from the former Yugoslavia, followed by Los Mambo Jambo, with their home-grown take on funk and other black music genres. The action on 10 February kicks off with the Italian pop rock band The Sweet Life Society, followed by the soul music of The Slingshots. And since it's carnival time there'll be no shortage of masks, fancy dress and fun.
