‘The captive gaze’, the next exhibition at the KBr Photography Center

The daguerreotype and the origins of photography

The new exhibition of the Fundación MAPFRE will open on February 26 at the KBr Photography Center.

The Fundación MAPFRE joins forces with the Centre de Recerca i Difusió de la Imatge of Girona to curate one of the next exhibitions you can see at the KBr Photography Center, ‘The captive gaze. The collection of daguerreotypes from Centre de Recerca i Difusió de la Imatge (CRDI), Girona’. The exhibition takes us to the origins of photography through the daguerreotype, one of the first supports in capturing portraits and landscapes of everyday life. The exhibition will open next February 26 and you can visit it until May 23.

The daguerreotype was one of the first photographic media and was received with great fascination by the possibility of 'captivating' an instant and fixing it, which is why this word is also used in the title of the exhibition, because it also ‘captivated’ those who observed it, who considered the technique a prodigy. Thanks to the work of CRDI, you will be able to enjoy a magnificent collection that aims to protect, promote and spread the city’s documentary heritage. The exhibition also includes different utensils from the Museu del Cinema de Girona, which complement the narrative.

You can visit the exhibition from Tuesday to Sunday, including public holidays, for 5 euros. You can book your ticket on the KBr Photography Center website.
