Film activism

The cycle 'Feminist Film Manifestos' will take place at the CCCB from 5 to 7 November.

The 1970s was a time of boiling activism, including feminism. Despite the strength that this movement took on, there were still issues at the bottom of its agenda and some feminist organisations highlighted the need to address them. The Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona recovers, in a new selection of the cycle ‘Feminist Film Manifestos’, some of the audiovisual works that appeared at that time thanks to a collective process of discussion, pieces that came out of the accepted cinematographic canons.

The sixth edition of the cycle recovers works by some of these activist groups from Europe and the United States. You can see films such as Soy Cámara: Una altra recepta per al mateix mal del Col·lectiu al dente, A question of choice by Sheffield Film Co-Op or Maso te Miso vont en bateau by Las Insoumuses. The sessions will include a debate with representatives from different collectives currently working on distribution, archiving and the historiography of film feminism, such as the Centre Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir, Frauen und Film, Kinothek Asta Nielsen, Cinenova and Women Make Movies.

The cycle will take place between the 5th and 7th of November in the Auditorium of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona with free admission until full capacity is reached. You can consult the sessions and the timetables here.
