The Filmoteca dedicates a retrospective to Alain Resnais
The complete works of the late French film maker, including “Hiroshima, mon amour”, “Last Year at Marienbad” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”, will be shown from the 14th of April on
A little over a year ago, on the 1st of March, 2014, one of the great directors in the history of film, Alain Resnais, died at 91 years old, just weeks after presenting his last film Life of Riley, at the Berlin Film Festival. This, and his entire body of work, including his short films, will be shown over the months of April and May in a retrospective entitled Alain Resnais no era únicament sever (Alain Resnais was not always severe) dedicated to him by the Filmoteca de Catalunya. The film cycle has been organised in conjunction with D’A – The Barcelona International Auteur Film Festival and with the support of the Instituto Francés.
The cycle will, of course, feature some of the director’s most emblematic and personal films, such as Hiroshima, mon amour, a romantic drama starring Emmanuelle Riva, Last Year at Marienbad, one of his most critically acclaimed films, The War is Over, with screenplay by Jorge Semprún, and Not on the Lips, a musical comedy of romantic entanglements. There will also be an opportunity to see some of his more recent films, some of which have not been previously released commercially here, such as Private Fears in Public Places, Wild Grass and You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet.
