Lights on in Poblenou

The 11th edition of the Llum BCN, Festival d'Arts Lumíniques, is here, with dozens of artistic proposals.

The Poblenou neighbourhood is becoming, once again, an urban laboratory that will set future trends in the world of art, design, urban lighting and citizen participation. The most brilliant national and international creators will be present at the Llum BCN, Festival d'Arts Lumíniques, which will be held between 4 and 6 February.

The American creator, writer, photographer and geographer Trevor Paglen, whose work raises the dangers of artificial intelligence in image recognition tools, leads the international representation, which also includes creators such as Ulf Langheinrich and Tundra. However, this year's edition will focus on home-grown talent, with the participation of cabosanroqueToni ArolaMariona Benedito + Cube.bz and Jordi Canudas, among others. The guest artist will be Antoni Miralda, who will parade a poetic street of light and sound presided over by a cement mixer. On the other hand, 16 art, design, lighting and architecture schools will exhibit their projects together in a tour of the Parc del Centre del Poblenou. It is worth noting that, for the first time, a work from the festival will be exhibited during the whole month of February at the Museu del Disseny. Named Data Heartbreak and created by Domestic Data Streamers, it is a co-production by the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB) and the festival. The project is a luminous exploration of the information intoxication, apathy and the importance of data. You will find it in room A of the DHUB.

This street art festival has been curated by Maria GüellJosé Luis de Vicente and Oriol Pastor, and in this 11th edition, it investigates the new dimensions of public space through the work of artists and groups of creators who are mapping its new limits and intersections. Several proposals offer innovative and irreverent looks of the idea of monumentality and the very nature of artistic objects imagined to be placed on the street. In the words of the organisers, Llum BCN proposes to enjoy works that will leave no one indifferent, saying "the most groundbreaking ones will shake your senses: others, more poetic will enchant you, and the majority, in one way or another, will make you reflect on various questions, be they social, aesthetic, urban or even existential".

In Llum BCN, following health recommendations, there will be capacity control in the perimeter spaces and a 70 per cent limitation in closed spaces. You can find all the information and the programme at this link
