La Mostra's summer program begins

The Barcelona International Women's Film Festival (La Mostra) is celebrating its 30th anniversary and will offer feminist cinema outdoors to promote its programme.

The Barcelona International Women's Film Festival (La Mostra) is celebrating its 30th edition. Coinciding with the event, La Mostra Summer Program will offer a mixed programme — online and in-person — during May, June and July spread over different venues: the Filmoteca de Catalunya, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica, Filmin and several squares and public spaces across the city.

The aim is to put together a programme "made up of the most diverse formats, contents and themes in order to continue generating spaces for gathering, reflection and cinematographic enjoyment". For this reason, La Mostra keeps the founding spirit alive and enriches feminist debates in the cinema rooms, rescuing and pioneering female filmmakers, paying attention to diverse films and auteurs, and seeking the plurality of formats of the most recent productions.

From 7 to 15 June, La Mostra is offering at the Filmoteca a current Panoràmica of experiences about the fight and resistance places starring women from the mountains of northern Vietnam inhabited by the Hmong ethnic group, with Children off the Mist (2021), by Diem Ha Le, all the way to the Mexican state of Oaxaca, with Nudo Mixteco (2021), by Ángeles Cruz, going through Morocco, with Femmes suspendues (2021), by Merième Addou, Greece, with Moon 66 Questions (2021), by Jacqueline Lentzou, and Catalonia, with Pioneres. Dones universitàries de la Segons República (2021), by Lala Gomà. On 8 June, there will be a talk with the Portuguese Manuela Serra, author of O Movimento das coisas (1985), and on 11 June, there will be a masterclass with the German producer and director Monika Treut, who recently re-recorded the transgender protagonists of Gendernauts (1999) in Genderation.

From 10 to 19 June, the Filmin platform will make available a selection of 12 films from La Mostra Summer Program to its subscribers. In addition, on 22 June at 7 p.m., as part of the online exhibition Rutes del desig, from the Projecte Arxipèlag, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge will host a lecture by the South African theorist Griselda Pollock on the creation of a virtual feminist museum. And on the 28th at 6 p.m., coinciding with LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, the Sala Bar at the Centre d'Arts Santa Mònica will be showing a selection of pieces by Canadian video artist Thirza Cuthand.

In a bid to appeal to everyone, La Mostra Summer Program will also reach the squares. The cycle is called Out of place cinema, starting on 2 June in the Plaça de la Virreina with the screening of Calcinculo (2022) by Chiara Bellosi and ending on 14 July in the courtyard of the Nou Barris district headquarters with a session of short films.
