The Music of 'Gladiator': From the Colliseum to L'Auditori

L'Auditori concert hall near Plaça de les Glòries will offer a live performance of one of Hans Zimmer's best known soundtracks.

In the year 200, a Hollywood super production brought together again two talents from two different fields, director Ridley Scott and composer Hans Zimmer. In their earlier collaborations, such as the roadmovie Thelma & Louise, they had already demonstrated their good chemistry. But it was Gladiator that marked a turning point in their relationship, especially for Zimmer, who won an Oscar for the best soundtrack for his work on the movie. Later there would be time for films like Hannibal (2001) and Black Hawk Down (2001), which are noteworthy, though less well-known collaborations.

Now, more than 15 years later, L’Auditori is to stage two live performances of Zimmer’s most famous soundtrack, on the 9th and 10th of January. Spectators will be able to approach the totality of the piece from its multiple faces; a variety of nuances that run from the epic to the sensitive and emotional; energy and delicacy; a true icon in contemporary soundtracks.

As well as offering the opportunity to enjoy the live orchestral performance, the concert also features a giant screen on which spectators can follow the adventures of the film’s protagonists. Conducting will be by the maestro Justin Freer, with the special collaboration of Clara Sanabras as solo vocalist. Without doubt, it promises to be an epic performance.
