The New Raemon at Apolo, part of the Festival del Mil·leni

The New Raemon never stop touring, performing wherever they find an audience, and good for them. The essential task of musicians, going right back to the origins of music, has consisted in precisely this: taking songs on the road, playing them to the widest variety of audiences.

 

With his most recent release, Tinieblas, por fin, Ramón Rodríguez makes his views  clear – just as he makes it clear that music can be vehicle for expressing important ideas, of revealing the smouldering interior of an artist’s soul. In this case, it is the political and social situation that most perturbs Rodríguez, "the confirmation that there are now only two groups: the powerful and the rest". He tries to express all this with subtlety however, avoiding extremist proclamations and not allowing the subject matter to detract from what must surely be his most brilliant record to date.

 

The release of Tinieblas, por fin also marks The New Raemon’s move away from the BCore label. The new publisher is Marxophone, a collective of artists committed to self-publishing and led by, among others, Nacho Vegas and Fernando Alfaro.
