A new series, “Solos”, opens in the Teatre Romea

Pere Arquillué will initiate the series, which is designed to offer complete freedom of choice to a variety of solo artists during 60 minutes

Following the summer break, the Teatre Romea reopens its doors will a novel proposal entitled Solos, designed as a platform for theatrical presentations in a format that is often used by other disciplines such as dance and music.

The format of the “solo” performances programmed for the Romea constitutes, in itself, a means of artistic representation and the idea is a very simple one: one artist, an empty stage, and 60 minutes in which to captivate an audience. With those basic restrictions, the artist in question is entirely free to choose the basis his or her performance, which may include poetry, prose, theatre or song, as well as the subject matter, or common thread running through the performance, and whether the performance is rehearsed or ad lib, whether it is read or recited from memory, whether or not musical accompaniment is used, etc., all of which may be freely combined in a challenging and exceptional hour on the stage.

Pere Arquillué is the artist chosen to present the opening salvo in the series on the 29th of September. Subsequent programmed performances include Juan Villoro (13/10) and Alberto San Juan (22/12) and the series is expected to feature performances by Juan Echanove, Lluís Soler, Nathalie Poza, Viggo Mortensen, Emma Vilarasau, Xavier Albertí, Andrés Lima, Josep Maria Pou, Lluís Homar, Marcos Ordóñez, Nora Navas, Mario Gas, Ariadna Gil, Eduard Fernández and Carles Canut.

The Solos series will run throughout the 2014/2015 season in the Teatre Romea and tickets are priced at 15 to 18 euros. More information is available here.
