Museums and cultural centres open doors for La Mercè Festival

Residents can visit spaces throughout Barcelona for free during the Festa Major.

Barcelona’s La Mercè Festival is nearly here, and that means it’s time to carve out some time in September because the city will be full of activities for everyone. Some venues that always join in are the museums and cultural centres, preparing visits, shows, screenings and much more to make the Catalan capital even more festive. Plus, as usual, they will be hosting open-doors days so everyone can enjoy them free of charge. The list of venues participating includes emblematic buildings, museums, galleries, archives and libraries, among others.

All of the activities will be held between 20 and 24 September, at various times depending on the venue. The Barcelona City Archive, for example, is hosting a temporary exhibit called “Una mà de cartes. Col·lecció de naips de l’Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona (1529-1988)” from 20 to 23 September. Those same days, Fabra i Coats. Centre d’Art Contemporani will be open with the exhibition “Post–RE”. Biblioteca Pública Arús will be open to the public on 23 September, with an exhibition called “Barcelona entre dues exposicions (1888-1929)”. On 23 and 24 September, you can visit Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona for free and see the “Quantum” and “Feminisms!” exhibitions. One of the venues that always hosts very successful open-doors days is the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, which will be open on 24 September. In addition to these, many other buildings will open their doors during the La Mercè Festival.

You can take part in these activities free of charge and, in most cases, without booking ahead. A list of participating venues is available on the La Mercè website.
