Vivaldi, a Baroque virtuoso

The Orquestra Barroca de Barcelona and the countertenor Oriol Rosés revisit the works of the Venetian composer at the Palau de la Música.

This year, the Palau de la Música has programmed the show Vivaldi Virtuosi several times as part of the NovAria Concerts cycle, to great public acclaim. The upcoming performances will take place on 17 July and 6 December, with a repertoire of arias for a countertenor and The Four Seasons.

The artistic and musical direction of the production is by Adolf Gassó and Joan Espina respectively. Both are also violinists of the Orquesta Barroca de Barcelona, a professional ensemble foremd in 2010 to disseminate and raise awareness of 17th and 18th-century music.

Made up mainly of Catalonia-based musicians who specialise in the performance of Baroque music on period instruments, on this occasion, the Orquesta Barroca de Barcelona proposes a journey through the work of the composer Antonio Vivaldi, from the most brilliant arias for countertenor to the sublime instrumental masterpiece of The Four Seasons.

At the time, this particular type of voice was the real vocal star throughout Europe. Therefore, the first part of the programme will be performed by Oriol Rosés and include pieces such as the Concerto in C Major for string orchestra RV 110Nisi Dominus-Cum Dederit, RV 608Violin Concerto in D Minor RV 243Vedrò con mio diletto Giustino, RV 717; and Longe Mala, umbrare, terrores, RV 629.

Tickets to enjoy Vivaldi Virtuosi live range from 28 to 58 euros and can be purchased directly at this link.
