Arts Santa Mònica exhibits works from the National Photography Collection

Nineteen photographers are represented with photographs from 1959 to 2013.

The National Photography Collection of the Generalitat of Catalonia was created three years ago in order to ensure that the most important signature photographic expressions in Catalonia are displayed, protected and appreciated. In this time, the collection has acquired a total of 881 photographs by 45 photographers, which are kept at the MNAC, the MACBA, the Photographic Archive of Barcelona and the National Archive of Catalonia. Photographs as a public space can be seen at Arts Santa Mònica until 21 January 2018 and includes images by 19 photographers, ranging from photos from 1959 by Francisco Ontañón to more recent images from 2013 by photographers like Aleix Plademunt, Jordi Guillumet and Mònica Roselló, alongside work by Pilar Aymerich, Joana Biarnés, Xavier Ribas, Daniela Ortiz, Martí Llorens and Manel Armengol.

The variety of names and themes portrayed reflects the acquisition policy of the Collection, which includes different periods and purposes. The exhibition, therefore, highlights the plurality of photographic culture in Catalonia. Curator Marta Dahó will lead a guided tour of the exhibition at 12 noon on Sunday 26 November.
