The secret Ramon Casas at Cercle del Liceu

One of the best known painters of the first generation of Catalan modernists.

With the backing of La Caixa, the Cercle del Liceu, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious clubs, is opening its doors to allow the public to visit its Catalan modernist halls and rooms upon the occasion of the Year of Ramón Casas. The club is hosting a large scale monographic exhibition centred on the figure of Júlia Peraire, Casas’ wife and muse. The exhibition will feature more than a hundred exhibits including paintings, drawings, letters and photographs as well as period items.

This is a unique opportunity to visit an establishment that is not usually open to the general public and to see the work of an artist who, together with Santiago Rusiñol, made up the first generation of Catalan modernists – a bohemian set of artists who revolutionised Catalan painting at the end of the 19th century.
