Self-guided tours of the Raval district using QR codes

QR codes on the doors of the district’s establishments help users acquaint themselves with the local heritage sites

Since its construction in the mid-fourteenth-century the Raval district has never ceased to transform and redefine itself. More than most other districts, it is proof that cities are living history that is in a constant state of evolution. The Raval district in particular contains a broad spectrum of cultural heritage including religious, civil, Roman, Gothic and contemporary styles, among others.

The newly-instated Temps Raval initiative now provides users with an opportunity to explore and rediscover this essential and oft-forgotten heritage via the placement of QR codes on the entrances to buildings throughout the district. All that is required is to read the QR code sticker with your mobile phone and you will be directed to a website containing a description of the closest historically significant site and directions from your current location.

The Temps Raval project is the result of collaboration between the Museu de Història de Barcelona and the archaeology and heritage departments of the Ciutat Vella District Council.

In addition to the self-guided tours, free guided tours are also available during the month of November. The Raval Medieval and Raval Industrial tours focus on the corresponding periods of history of the district and places are still available for the Medieval tour on the 22nd and the Industrial tour on the 21st. Reservations may be made via ravalcultural@bcn.cat or by phoning 932566600.
