The series “Llegir l'escena” (Reading the scene) puts the spectator backstage

The next instalment in this series of conferences on theatrical design will take place on the 19th of January in the El Clot-Josep Benet Library with a conference on the audio-visual content of the dance production, “Foot-ball”, directed by Cesc Gelabert

While the spectator only sees what takes place on-stage, and in particular the work of the actors, everyone knows a lot more goes on behind the red curtain, where actors’ talents are invariably complemented by a wealth of essential technical additions that include suitable wardrobe and stage decoration and lighting and sound, among many other aspects.

The Barcelona library network, Biblioteques de Barcelona, in conjunction with the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) and the Barcelona Design Museum are currently offering a series of theatrical design conferences in an effort to acquaint spectators with the work that is carried out prior to a performance and give them an insight into all that goes on behind the scenes. With this in mind, monthly conferences dealing with each of the disciplines in question have been organised using a TNC production as the basis for the presentation. The next conference, which will deal with audio-visuals and will be presented by Jordi Morató, Benet Román and Albert Coma, will take place on the 19th of January to coincide with the debut of the dance production, Foot-ball. Directed by Cesc Gelabert, the production dealing with the language of football can be seen from the 22nd of January to the 1st of February.

Eduardo Filippo’s The art of comedy will provide the focus for the following two conferences, in which Nina Pawlowsky and Marialena Roqué will speak about wardrobe (16/02) and Ignasi Camprodon and Maria Güell will deal with the subject of lighting (16/03). The subject of sound will be addressed by Lucas Ariel Vallejos and Marta García Quiñones (20/04) using the Josep Palau i Fabre play Mots de ritual per a Electra as the basis for their presentation, while musical and stage direction will be approached in a conference given by Xavier Albertí and Ignasi Bonjoch ( 18/05) based on L’Hort de les oliveres, by Narcís Comadira. The final conference will approach the subject of stage photography and will be presented by May Zircus and Noemí Elías (15/06).
