The Council
The Barcelona Culture Council was established in 2008 in order to contribute to the city’s cultural development.
The Council provides an arena for dialogue involving the various cultural sectors, the political parties represented in the City Council and independent experts from Barcelona’s cultural sphere. A participatory body, the Council set up to influence the way cultural policy is drawn up, established and applied. It is governed by its internal operating regulations.
The Council is mixed in nature; it is both consultative and executive, politically independent yet attached to the city government.
The governing bodies of Barcelona Council of Culture are the Plenary Council and the Executive Committee. Both bodies have has the power to set up working groups to address matters of interest to the Council.
