Guanyar-se el pa [Earning One’s Daily Bread]

Sant Andreu Contemporani
20 October, 2021 - 12:00 to 7 November, 2021 - 15:00

Calls for art aimed at younger artists offer those who put forward proposals the possibility of starting a career and earning a living from their artistic practice. We are aware that the path to achieving this is not easy and that these calls also respond to a model that should be rethought. Nevertheless, our desire, more than ever, is to provide visibility and build an initial space that is liberating and hopeful, in which artists can mature, grow and become stronger within the context of contemporary art.

Guanyar-se el pa  [Earning One’s Daily Bread] gathers together work by finalists of the Miquel Casablancas Award Visual Arts Competition 2021 in the Work category, the finalist dossiers of the other categories (Project, Mediation and Graphic Communication) and the projects of the artists on the SAC-FiC Residencies Programme 2020.

Sant Andreu Contemporani (SAC) is a public programme dedicated to young art in the Sant Andreu district, with the support of the Culture Institute of Barcelona (ICUB). Developed around the Miquel Casablancas Award for Visual Arts, the programme supports experience during the artistic professionalisation stage through the production of exhibition projects and publications, residencies for artists and curators, and a programme of activities.

 * We would like to thank artist Joana Capella who has allowed us to use the title of her project Guanyar-se el pa, which was selected for the 2017-2018 edition of Sala d’Art Jove, as the title for this exhibition.
