Dark fantasy for young and old: The master, Frances Hardinge
Dark fantasy is a major draw for young readers, but Frances Hardinge is an author whose books fascinate both adults and young people. The British writer is an expert in presenting magical worlds, with complex plots driven by mysteries that hook readers of all ages. As well as a host of accolades from the UK, including Costa and British Science Fiction Association awards, in Catalonia, she has won the Llibreter Prize for Cuckoo Song and the Juvenil 42 Award for A Skinful of Shadows, as well as receiving an Atrapallibres Award nomination (ibbyCat) for Island of Whispers. Unraveller, A Skinful of Shadows and The Lie Tree have also been translated into Catalan. Now, her The Forest of a Thousand Eyes, which imagines a world where shadows can see and every step could be your last, has just been published in Catalan (Bambú). The British author, who defines herself as a lover of volcanoes and is rarely seen without her hat, will be talking with Júlia Baena, a librarian specialising in young adults’ literature.
