Route to Balladica, a ‘folktronic’ journey through fantasy worlds
The 5th edition of the 42 Festival couldn’t end just any old way. That’s why we’re closing it out with a musical journey through folktronica (folk remixed with electronic music) in the company of Eugene Freska, better known by his artistic name, Feyleryn. The Russian composer, producer and songwriter will be performing Route to Balladica, his latest album adapted as a concert, with a dozen tracks inspired by classical fantasy and science fiction works, such as Tolkien’s The Silmarillion and The Hobbit; C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia; Frank Herbert’s Dune, and Dan Simmons’s Hyperion. This musical journey will also transport us to the setting of Homer’s Odyssey, as well as The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Beagle, all through a rich sound tapestry where the world’s musical traditions harmonise with the nuances of postmodernity, defying any known labels.
