Santiago Roncagliolo

Santiago Roncagliolo, born in Lima in 1975, is a writer, playwright, screenwriter, translator and journalist whose works revolve around the theme of evil. He has received awards including the Alfaguara Prize and the UK’s Independent Foreign Fiction Prize for Abril rojo [Red April], and was a finalist for France’s Violeta Negra Prize with La pena máxima [Capital Punishment], which was adapted for cinema in Peru. Pudor [Modesty] was also adapted into a Spanish film, and La noche de los alfileres [The Night of the Pins] was staged in Poland. His latest novel, El año en que nació el demonio [The Year the Devil Was Born], was selected by Forbes magazine as one of the best books of 2023.
