Barcelona City Council joins the Fundación Cotec

The Full Council gives the go ahead for the City Council to join the Fundación Cotec as a regular member, the aim being stronger links with initiatives to promote research in science, technology and innovation. The City Council will provide 18,000 euros a year over an extendable four-year period and be actively involved in the initiatives by the foundation.

The Fundación Cotec is a non-profit organisation, its main mission being to promote innovation and technological development as basic areas for economic and social progress.

The foundation currently has nearly a hundred members, including private companies and local and regional administrations. It mainly acts as an R+D+I observatory for innovation, technology and economics, and also works in the sphere of education and training to foster the culture of innovation through initiatives such as STEAM education programmes, professional training courses and more.

The City Council has committed to make an annual contribution of 18,000 euros over a renewable period of four years. It will also be actively taking part in the initiatives by the foundation. This organisation is already international renowned with the creation of Cotec Italy (2001) and Cotec Portugal (2003).

The decision to join the Fundación Cotec was approved by the Full Council, with the municipal government and the groups of the ERC, PP and Vox voting in favour, while Junts-TriasxBCN and BComú abstained.
