Agreement with the CSIC to enlarge the research centre on the seafront
The research centre located on the seafront in Barceloneta is to be enlarged thanks to a collaboration agreement between the City Council and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the goal being to generate new scientific dissemination uses and connections with the public. The expansion project will be at the Mediterranean Marine and Environmental Research Centre (CMIMA), located in Passeig Marítim and housing the Institute of Marine Sciences and the Marine Technology Unit. The project will see as many as three former leisure premises converted to become part of this facility, with 4,330 square metres of floor space devoted to knowledge transfer and citizen dissemination.
The agreement will allow for the continued rollout of the Barcelona Science Plan 2020-2023, a municipal government measure to drive the city’s own scientific policy and promote Barcelona as a European capital for science and culture.
An Olympic Port for local people and for driving the blue economy
The agreement with the CSIC will allow the Olympic Port to continue with its transformation and become a space for local people and the promotion of the blue economy, linked to the sea and environmental sustainability.
